FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK, PART VII: THE NEW BLOOD

A sequel in the true sense, the seventh runner-up in FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK recaps some of the most memorable death scenes throughout the franchise during the intro of Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood.

The telekinetic girl Tina returns to Crystal Lake with her mother and her doctor Dr. Crews to try work out the guilt she's struggling with after being (somewhat) responsible of the drowning of her father. While thinking she senses her dead father, Tina activates her telekinetic powers and accidentally brings Jason back to life, giving him the chance to break free from the chains that have been holding him underneath the lake for several years. Tina later starts having visions of Jason killing people, as a holiday party group in a neighboring cabin gets offed, one by one.

BEST PART OF INTRO SCENE

BEST LINE
Sandra (while skinny-dipping): "You need a formal invitation? Russell party for two, right this way place."

BEST NUDITY SCENE
Sandra frantically spreading her legs just seconds before she's drowned.

BEST SCREAM
Maddy's mental breakdown when Russell's dead body comes falling from the sky.

MOST GORY SCENE
Dan getting a hand through his chest and his neck snapped.

BEST DEATH SCENE
From the unrated version: Judy hiding in her sleeping bag, getting swung against in of the forest's sturdier trees.

Check out the scene here.

BEST KILLER FEATURE
Tina's mind-tricks blowing up zombie Jason's head inside his mask.

FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK, PART VI: JASON LIVES

"He's back! He's the man behind the mask." Yes, in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, Jason returns from the dead to stir up a new death frenzy at Crystal Lake. Although this is the fifth movie in the installment (check out the previous posts in FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK) to take place at a camp around Crystal Lake, I have to say it's nice to come back to the campgrounds after the preceding movie's total failure at trying a new approach.

This movie could easily be watched without having seen its prequels, as it's a classic 80's movie; it's humorous, plays fierce music (Alice Cooper's Hard Rock Summer and Teenage Frankenstein, and Felony's I'm No Animal) accompanying got car crashes and police chases, it's got a various span of death scenes and more mature actors. I would say this is probably the best movie since Part I.

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives movie poster
Despite being a huge fan of 80's rock and the fact that some of my favorite bands had their moment of stardom around the time I was born, I was never an Alice Cooper fan girl. However, "He's Back: The Man Behind The Mask" is a great example of a classic 80's song, twisted into Alice Cooper's own little version of music making. I've seen Alice Cooper live at several festivals (amongst them Sweden Rock Festival 2006 and Sonisphere 2010) but never performing this song, which would be fun to watch considering Alice Cooper's ordinary scen art and characteristic stage performances.

BEST PART OF INTRO  SCENE
Jason accidentally getting electrocuted in his grave.

BEST LINE
Lizabeth: "I've seen enough horror movies to know any weirdo wearing a mask is never friendly."

BEST NUDITY SCENE
Although not so nude- Cort and Nikki's power humping in the trailer.

BEST SCREAM
Lizabeth, screaming as her boyfriend Darren gets slashed all over the windshield of her car, crawls out of the car and falls into a puddle of mud, shortly before getting her head pierced.

MOST GORY SCENE
With not so much gore to choose from I would have to go with Jason's strangling Nikki in the back of the trailer and pushes her face into the wall.

BEST DEATH SCENE
Burt get's his forehead smashed into a tree. And a smiley-face.

BEST KILLER FEATURE
Jason drowns. Again.

FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK, PART V: A NEW BEGINNING

Returning in Friday the 13th Week with the fifth part of the franchise, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning gives us an adolescent Tommy, who's transferred to a rural halfway house for troubled teenagers after being released from the Unger Institute for Mental Health. Struggling with his PTSD, Tommy needs to face the nightmare of Jason's return as a series of murders begin anew.

Although Friday the 13th: A New Beginning is trying a different approach to the franchise, the idea of featuring a killer besides Jason Voorhees (the first to have one that is not a member of the Voorhees-family) is just one step too many taken with lack of imagination. Or rather, lack of inspirational imagination. This movie just feels like a total rip-off from a number of different 80's landmarks. Foremost, the set of mentally unstable and institutionalized teenagers, the nightmares about the killer's return and the desperate attempts of survival from institution personnel just reeks of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Which totally sucks, since A Nightmare on Elm Street is an 80's masterpiece in my book, and this isn't.

With that being said, this is obviously not one of my favorites.

BEST PART OF INTRO SCENE
Jason awakening from his grave.

BEST LINE
Ethel: "I'm gonna chop you into itty bitty little pieces, my friend"

BEST NUDITY SCENE
Eddie and Tina's voyeur rendezvous in the woods.

BEST DEATH SCENE
Violet's death scene is voted the best due to her bad ass robot dance (which was featured on my 2011 Halloween Top 10: Macabre Dance Numbers).

BEST SCREAM
I can never remember her name, but she takes on the screaming role quite well as she wakes up to find her boyfriend dead in bed with her.

MOST GORY SCENE
Eddie getting his head wrenched around a tree.

BEST KILLER FEATURE
This one's just hilarious. First of all Jason's drowned. Then he's been stabbed, axed, hung from a rope around his neck numerous times. And what does he do when he gets his head kicked by a tiny woman's foot? He dramatically touches the side of his head, as it it's hurting. This just shows that it's obviously not Jason who's the killer.

FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK, PART IV: THE FINAL CHAPTER

Clearly inspired by John Carpenter's second part in the Halloween franchise, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, fourth runner up in FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK, moves us into the morgue where the mortally wounded, and supposedly dead, Jason Voorhees once again rises from his dead like state to claim vengeance.

As always, returning to Crystal Lake means the usual teenage motley; wild 80's parties, skinny dippings, first-time try outs fronted by the usual stoner. This teenage group might be a dead ringer but we're also met with two inspirational new character forms; the revengeful 'Outback Jack' Rob Dyer, who's set in hunting down Jason to revenge his sister's death. And the divorced next door neighbor's son Tommy, played by the amazing Corey Feldman (amongst other 80's classics Stand by Me, The Goonies & The Lost Boys).

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is my favorite so far after the first movie. The death scenes are clearly inspired by the mid 80's wave of horror movies, becoming more inventive and challenging. The amazing final scene where Tommy's passion for mask- and costume making saves the day; it's clear that the costume and makeup has sufficiently improved, which is enhanced in the ending scene where Jason's mask is finally torn off and the face of his true character is revealed.

BEST PART OF INTRO SCENE
Plastic covered police hats and matching rain coats when it's not even raining.

BEST LINE

Tommy: (watches the teenage group go skinny dipping) "Some pack of patootsies, huh".

BEST NUDITY SCENE

BEST DEATH SCENE
Most comic one, at least. Bonnie Hellman's appearance as 'the hitchhiker' is so short and even less charming, that I had to give her chubby banana eating face a spot on the list.

BEST SCREAM
With not enough Scream Queen action, the award would have to go to Trish in her final strength to fight of Jason.

MOST GORY SCENE
Doug gets his face crushed in the shower.

BEST KILLER FEATURE
Tommy's half beheading of Jason.

FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK, PART III: A NEW DIMENSION IN TERROR

Third out in FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK is naturally the third part where a group of kids decide to camp out at a family house along the lake. As Friday the 13th Part 3 takes up where the previous left off, Jason, having escaped the last horror episode, is back in his hockey mask continuing his murderous rampage around Crystal Lake. Yes. It's seriously getting repetitive as this is the third in a row on the same camp-slasher-theme. It doesn't really help that the teenage group has been integrated with some good ol' 80's bikers, or a new town loony. They're obviously late at grasping the concept that at some point in time fans and viewers alike will demand innovation. It could be anything from a different victim set up, to new death scenes, new angles and behavioral patterns of the perpetrator, etc. The positive part is that Jason is way more active in this movie, and is portrayed in a whole other way than in the previous movie. Also, giving Chrissy a past with and a history about Jason gives a different influence to the movie, but unfortunately it's too little of an influence to keep the movie from falling prey to its expected outcome.

BEST PART OF INTRO SCENE
Except from the archive footage from Friday the 13th Part 2 with Mrs. Voorhees' rotten head, it's when Edna watches the late night news reporting the massacre at Crystal Lake and the seriousness of the crime is officially stated, instead of 'Camp Blood' being downgraded to an urban legend and turned into a joke.

BEST LINE
Chuck: How come you never scream when we have sex?
Chili: Give me something to scream about.

BEST NUDITY SCENE
This movie surprised me too little ass hump and too few boob bumps. I guess the best thing it gave us was Debbie's side boobs in the shower.

BEST DEATH SCENE
Andy's chop to the crotch!

BEST SCREAM
Chris' panicked scream as Jason enters through the broken window. Mostly my favorite scream because she sounds and looks almost like Laura Palmer, when she's getting tortured by BOB in the train wagon.

MOST GORY SCENE
This movie also surprised me with very few and non-gory scenes. I know, it's a slasher, it's not supposed to be all Rob Zombie-styled, but a few more blood stains and some spilled guts wouldn't harm a little fan girl, right? One runner up is Andy's body part crammed up on a tie beam.

BEST KILLER FEATURE
There's a tie between Jason's disgusting face turning up in the second floor window, and Mrs. Voorhees suddenly popping up from the lake all covered in mucus and worms.

FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK, PART II: RETURNING TO CRYSTAL LAKE

Second out in FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK is of course Friday the 13th Part 2, which takes us back to Jason's rural woods 5 years after the gruesome murders at Camp Crystal Lake. A new set of 'camp counselors' are spending two weeks in training at a remote camp and rumor has it that Jason is still lurking in the woods, set on revenging the death of his mother by killing anyone that comes onto his territory. Set on the same environment as its prequel, Friday the 13th Part 2 is doomed to have the same ill-fated destiny. Being a sucker for the 80's slashers with slow pace, as well as camp horror movies, I find this second part of the Jason Voorhees franchise still so fresh a sequel that it's... snug, to watch. As the second act picks up the pace, Friday the 13th Part 2 might be serving one of its times most compelling acts with its ending scenes.

BEST PART OF INTRO SCENE
The wonderful cryptics of the 80's displayed in Jason's shoes crossing a street puddle.

BEST LINE
Paul, head counselor: "These kids smoke better dope than I do"

BEST NUDITY SCENE

BEST DEATH SCENE
Dear old Alice gets her head penetrated with a screw driver after she finds a severed head in her fridge

BEST SCREAM
Terry finds Scott with his throat sliced hanging upside down from a tree

MOST GORY SCENE
Mark gets his face butchered with a machete and falls down a set of stairs on his wheelchair

BEST KILLER FEATURE
Jason comes flying in through the window during the end scenes and throws himself over Ginny

FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK, PART I: WELCOME TO CAMP CRYSTAL LAKE

Friday the 13th (1980) movie poster
I'm kicking off this Friday the 13th of January with some snapshots from the first movie in the Friday the 13th franchise, and will be continuing posting some of my favorite scenes from each move, during each day of FRIDAY THE 13TH WEEK.

The good old Christian camp fire song followed by Tom Dooley.

BEST LINE
Ned: If you were a flavor of ice cream, what would it be?
Marcie: Rocky road.

BEST NUDITY SCENE
Marcie's hand squeezing Jack's (played by Kevin Bacon) butt with a dead Ned laying in the top bunk.

BEST DEATH SCENE
The arrowed squeezed through Jack's throat coming from underneath the bed

BEST SCREAM
When Alice finds Bill nailed (or rather arrowed) to the wall in the tool shed.

MOST GORY SCENE
Marcie's blow to the head

BEST KILLER FEATURE
The ever so fresh Jason peeks up from under the lake surface
